Bob Walk remained unbeaten at home, limiting Cincinnati to an unearned run over five innings before leaving with a groin injury. Rookie right-hander Joel Johnston pitched three scoreless innings in his second NL career appearance, and Stan Belinda got the last three outs for his 17th save.

Walk (10-6), a 10-game winner at the All-Star break for the first time in his 14-year career, is 7-0 in eight starts this season at Three Rivers Stadium.

Carlos Garcia was 3 for 4 with a homer in the third off Tom Browning (6-4), who had won his last three decisions and six of his last seven.

Before the game, Tim Wakefield (4-8, 6.35 ERA), the knuckleballer who almost pitched Pittsburgh into the World Series last year as a rookie, was demoted to Double-A Carolina.
