Marcia Ann Gillespie’s objectives for Ms. magazine, now that she is editor in chief, is “to put more personal voices in the magazine” because “it is through the voices and sharing that women make major change.” She wants to make Ms. “a magazine that the reader not only trusts but comes to view as a best friend. What women read resonates in their minds, hearts and guts.” Gillespie, who most recently was executive editor for Ms., spent a decade as editor in chief of Essence, whose circulation skyrocketed from 50,000 to 750,000 during her tenure.
