I am writing you because I feel I am letting my comrades in arms down. I read in the Almanac where you mentioned allied troops landed in Sicily. I am a Chicagoan and was in the 36th Division. We were the first American troops to land in continental Europe. The landing date was Sept. 9, 1943, at Salerno, Italy. It was about nine months before they landed in France.
