A man who claimed he was running a South Side asphalt-recycling business must clean up an estimated 250,000 tons of asphalt roofing debris, a Cook County Circuit Court judge ordered Tuesday.
Judge Edwin M. Berman said Michael M. Gaudio, owner of Asphalt Recovery Systems Inc., has to remove the debris from his company’s site at 4835 S. Morgan St. and pay the city a $500,000 fine for illegally operating a waste dump.
The judge said that if Gaudio decides not to do the cleanup himself, he must pay the city $4.8 million, which is the city’s estimate for doing the work.
