A proposed ordinance to restrict the use of outdoor electric bug killers was zapped by a 4-2 vote Monday night by the Orland Park Village Board.

Mayor Dan McLaughlin said, “I can’t enact an ordinance that affects 40,000 people because of a minor conflict between two neighbors. Government has a tendency to get too involved in people’s lives.”

An ordinance to prohibit the use of the electric bug zappers after 10 p.m. was proposed last month after a resident complained about a neighbor who kept his device plugged in all night.
