Albert Belle’s weak grounder under the gloves of two Boston infielders with two outs in the ninth resulted in a two-run error.
The Red Sox, who had scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a 6-5 lead, lost for the eighth time in 11 games.
With runners on second and third, Belle hit a grounder that went under the glove of third baseman Scott Cooper and then skipped past shortstop John Valentin, who was charged with the error.
Jerry DiPoto (4-2) pitched the final 1 2/3 innings for the win. Jeff Russell (0-4) took the loss.
