The schedule of touring acts at the College of Du Page Arts Center gets bigger each year. Jazz great Ramsey Lewis and pianist/comedian Victor Borge are among the stars for the Arts Center’s eighth season.
Lewis will make his first appearance at the Arts Center on Sept. 25. Tickets are $22, $21 for students and senior citizens. Borge is scheduled for Oct. 23. Tickets range from $19.50 to $37.50.
The season also includes Dylan Thomas’ “Under Milk Wood,” performed by the National Theatre of the Deaf, Oct. 17; and Robert Pridham’s adaptation of Stephen King’s “Ghost Stories,” performed by Troupe America and Quest Association In Company, Oct. 24.
Classical guitarist Christopher Parkening graces the stage Nov. 5. Also in November: Nobel Prize-winning physicist Leon Lederman will discuss “The God Particle: How Does the Universe Work?” Nov. 10; “Nine Sinatra Songs,” performed by the Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Nov. 18-21; country singer Guy Clark and folksinger Dave Moore, Nov. 26; and Poko Production’s children’s show “The Jack Frost Holiday Revue,” Nov. 27.
Other holiday events include “Tom Thumb in Toyland” by the American Family Theatre, Dec. 10; and “The Nutcracker” by the Von Heidecke’s Chicago Festival Ballet, Dec. 17-21.
The new year will ring in with the Stage One: Louisville Children’s Theatre version of “Aladdin,” Jan. 23; and music of Beethoven, Liszt and others performed by violinist Kees Kooper and pianist Louise Boehm, also on Jan. 23.
Japanese drummers Kodo will liven things up on Feb. 19 and 20; followed by physician/author Robin Cook, Feb. 22; choral music by Chanticleer, Feb. 25; the Daedalus production of “From the Mississippi Delta,” Feb. 26; and the American Family Theatre’s children’s show, “Robin Hood,” March 6.
Closing out the season will be the Nebraska Theatre Caravan’s version of “Godspell,” April 26; Queen Ida and the Bon Temps Zydeco Band, April 30; and Leon Bates in “Gershwin by Request,” May 28.

– This weekend at the Arts Center, the college’s Student Activities Program Board will present a “Comedy Show,” starring Christopher Titus, Anthony Berry and Brad Lowery, at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Arts Center’s Mainstage.

– Children’s performers Sharon, Lois & Bram will return to the Rialto Square Theatre in Joliet as part of their “Great Big Tour” at 4:30 and 7 p.m. Friday.
Sharon Hampson, Lois Lilienstein and Bram Morrisson formed the trio in 1978 and since then have produced gold and platinum albums, a children’s TV show and numerous concert tours. They perform familiar favorites such as “Skinnamarink” and “Old McDonald,” inviting the young audience to sing along.

At 8 p.m. Saturday the Rialto will present the Choral-Aires Chapter of Sweet Adelines International performing “Sweet Adeline Champions-The Best of Barbershop.”
The Choral-Aires Chapter, which was the 1992 champion in its region, will compete at the Sweet Adelines International Competition in November in Indianapolis.
Also performing will be the Melodeers Chorus from Northbrook, the 1993 regional champions; and the women’s quartets Chicago Fire and Legacy. Taylor Trimby will perform on the theater organ at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

– The Du Page Symphony Orchestra has announced the lineup for its 40th anniversary season, under the direction of Barbara Schubert.
The 1993-94 subscription season will begin Oct. 9 in Naperville’s Pfeiffer Hall with a concert of works by Britten, Grieg, Stravinsky and Dvorak. Pianist Myung-Hee Chung will be the featured soloist.
Soprano Diane Ragains will sing Feb. 5 in a concert that holds works by Ravel and Bruckner; the concert is also in Pfeiffer Hall.
The March 12 concert will be presented in Wheaton’s Edman Memorial Chapel and will showcase works of Schumann and Beethoven. The orchestra will be assisted by the Naperville Chorus and the Downers Grove Oratorio Society.
The subscription season will come to a close on May 15 at the College of Du Page Arts Center when the winner of the 1994 Young Artist Auditions will be featured along with Tschaikowsky’s “Romeo and Juliet: A Fantasy Overture” and Symphony No. 4.

– The Naperville Municipal Band will perform its final concert, “Autumn Serenade,” at 7:45 p.m. Thursday in Central Park, Benton and Court Streets, Naperville.
The free concert will feature Shostakovich’s “Festive Overture,” and will include some football favorities. “Selections from Oklahoma” and “Peter Rabbit and Tales of Beatrix Potter” also will be performed. The band will end the concert with “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
