Six Chicago area contractors have been indicted for bilking 21 city and northwest suburban homeowners of more than $78,000, Atty. Gen. Roland W. Burris announced.
“These are classic cases where some contractors took the money and ran. Others did very little work, then stalled on materials,” Burris said.
Payments ranging from $750 to $20,730 were made by families and one senior citizen for a second-story addition, a garage, new siding, railings and awnings, and masonry work.
A Cook County grand jury returned the indictments of home repair fraud and theft against these contractors:
– Julian Lekarczyk of Affordable Rehab, 3086 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago.
– Harold Holle Sr. and Harold Holle Jr. of Holly Builders, 683 N. Wolf Rd., Des Plaines.
– Edmund Kasner of Heartland Exteriors Inc., 2957 N. Cicero Ave., Chicago.
– Rich Thompson of Rich Construction and Richardson Building Inc., 629 S. Bruner, Hinsdale.
– James Wright of Wright Masonry, address unknown.
Home repair fraud is a felony punishable by up to 3 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
