After watching the political machinations on C-SPAN and other news sources in getting the president’s economic package passed by the most narrow of margins, I was reminded of a statement made by C.S. Lewis, the famous scholar and philosopher:

“. . . (A) state where everyone is perpetually concerned about his own dignity and advancement, and where everyone has a grievance, and where everyone lives the deadly serious passions of envy, self-importance and resentment.” No, Lewis was not describing life in the District of Columbia, nor Congress in particular. This was how Lewis described hell.
