Salomon Torres won his major-league debut with the help of 15 hits by San Francisco, which snapped a season-high four-game losing streak.
Torres, 21, who started the season with Double-A Shreveport, gave the Giants’ beleaguered pitching staff a big boost. He allowed five hits and two walks in seven innings, striking out six.
“I wasn’t nervous,” he said. “For the first batter I was excited. I walked him and then I realized, `Let me settle down, or you’re going to make a fool of yourself.’ “
Torres got plenty of rest on the eve of his first start.
“I went to bed at midnight and woke up at 2 o’clock this afternoon,” he said.
