The 17th Winter Olympic games in Lillehammer next February may be the first to sell out all tickets to all events, it was announced Thursday.
Of a total of 1.4 million tickets, 1,060,000 are already sold. Next month, five months before the Olympic flame arrives in Lillehammer, organizers are expected to break the record set in 1988 at Calgary, where 77.8 percent of the tickets were sold.
While Calgary sold 100,000 tickets abroad in 1988, Lillehammer has already sold almost 200,000 in 43 countries. All 50,000 tickets offered for sale in the United States have been bought. There is now a waiting list for 30,000 more tickets in the U.S.
Of the 115 events, 71 are already sold out. Tickets remain for some Alpine skiing events, the preliminary round of ice hockey, luge and bobsled, and women’s figure skating.
