Ray Moseley deserves more than a few kudos for his two-part article on the British system of justice, especially as it has been applied in the six British-occupied counties of northern Ireland.
Anyone who reads the two articles by Moseley will be forced to conclude that Britain’s reputation as a land of liberty respecting and cherishing the rights of the individual has been vastly overrated.
It is clear that the civil liberties of Englishmen are being sacrificed on the altar of political repression and injustice that is being ruthlessly imposed on the nationalist population of Ireland’s six northern counties.
That Britain has seen fit to repeal her equivalent of the 5th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, with its prohibition against self-incrimination, shows that Britain is sliding down the slippery slope of fascist totalitarianism.
Britain’s tacit support of the Orange lodges must be ended. Britain’s support for Orange bigotry cannot be either morally or legally justified. This means that Britain must withdraw not only her troops but also her sovereignty from the northern six counties of Ireland and transfer that sovereignty to the people of Ireland.
When Britain is finally out of Ireland, the state of civil liberty may be restored to its formerly esteemed place in British constitutional law. Until this is done, the bloody conflict will continue and Britons will continue to lose whatever liberty they have left.
Again, many thanks to Ray Moseley for a job well done.
