Village officials have accepted a proposal that limits households to two containers per weekly collection in an attempt to limit the amount of garbage headed for landfills.

Lombard Disposal Inc. was selected despite a lower bid from another company. The lower bid, from Arc Disposal, limited cans to 33 gallons. Lombard Disposal’s offer allows the use of larger containers.

Additional containers will cost 75 cents each, and yard-waste stickers will be $1.40, according to the contract, which begins in January.

The monthly charge will be $8.95 for the two-can service compared to $10.88 now charged monthly for an unlimited number of containers.
