Lyons sectional: No. 3 Downers Grove South struggled to defeat Oak Park 16-14, 7-15, 15-6.
“We knew Oak Park would not sit back,” said Downers South coach Judy Griesheim. “They got us rattled. We lacked any kind of defense tonight.”
Terri Zemaitis led the way with 14 kills and Tracy Black, who served out the match with three aces, added 12.
In the first match, Lyons advanced with a 15-9, 9-15, 15-9 victory over Hinsdale Central. Julie Keck tallied 12 kills and eight digs, Beth Keck had 20 assists and Kelly Maley added five kills and five blocks.
Somonauk sectional: Shalini Job recorded eight kills, Christy Landry nine and Bobbie Bremner six as Wheaton St. Francis (30-8) swept Bishop MacNamara 15-5, 15-10. Bremner also dished out 14 assists.
