When I was 4 years old, my father taught me how to read and write using the book “Why Johnny Can’t Read and What You Can Do About It” by Rudolf Flesch. My spelling has always been above average, with no thanks due to paid schoolteachers.

In a country where high-tech newspapers daily assault readers with serious errors in spelling and language usage because they have dispensed with professional proofreaders, “invented spelling” is the last gimmick a child needs to master our unphonetically-spelled English language.
