Forget about hemlines. Juicier news during recent spring fashion shows in Europe and currently in New York has centered on models’ rates for strutting the runways.
While many Italian and French designers caved in to demands, the Americans wrangled with agencies before agreeing on minimum hourly wages: New faces, $250; “top tier” models, $600; supermodels, $750.
That means most of the supers will be getting up to $4,500 per show (jobs include waiting around, having hair and makeup done by pros, etc.). Some-whose agents hold out-will get more. Few, if any, will get the $10,000 plus perks they got for their stints in Europe. Poor darlings.
