The Tobacco Institute says (according to Bob Greene in his Oct. 25 article) if the anti-smoking people prevail it would be an economic disaster for the country, because so many people would be put out of work.
Couldn’t the same be said for drug-pushers and gunmakers and distillers? Does the Tobacco Institute suggest we promote guns, drugs, smoking and drinking to cure our economic ills?
Walker Merryman, vice president of the institute, says in Bob’s article: “I enjoy it (smoking); I can’t think of any other reason to smoke.” Well, I can. You’re hooked on nicotine, and cigarettes are the hits you need to keep your nicotine level up so you avoid withdrawal symptoms.
