Francis B. Cronin, 72, a retired Chicago Board of Education official, died Thursday at his home. Mr. Cronin was director of plant operations and maintenance for the Board of Education. Before that, he was president of Local 143 of the Operating Engineers Union and served in the Navy Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Cronin also was a eucharistic minister at St. John Fisher Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Grace; and eight children. Visitation is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Beverly Ridge Funeral Home, 10415 S. Kedzie Ave. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John Fisher, 103rd Street and Washtenaw Avenue.
