Samuel Lupo Jr., the Bedford Park man charged with kidnapping his wife at gunpoint and taking her on a 2 1/2-day drive through Indiana, gave his own version of events Friday in a county courtroom in Bridgeview.
During preliminary and bond hearings before Judge Thomas Carmody Jr., Lupo described the trip, which resulted in a multistate manhunt, as “fun.” He also said that after the initial flight on Nov. 3 from the couple’s apartment on 66th Street in Bedford Park, their drive in a rental car to Indiana was pleasant.
“At that point, we were getting along really great,” Lupo said, “and there was nothing to worry about.”
Lupo has been charged with aggravated stalking, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault with a firearm and violation of an order of protection. He is also charged with domestic battery for allegedly beating up his wife, Anna Lupo, 19. Federal officials have also charged him with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. On Friday, Carmody ruled that Lupo be held without bond.
Anna Lupo gave a different description of the trip.
“He said, `Don’t say nothing. Shut up or I’m going to kill you,’ ” She said in testimony earlier Friday.
Lupo is now being held in the County Jail. His next court date is set for Nov. 30.
