The decor was simple-translucent white balloons on tables topped with white cloths. But the results were powerful-about $125,000 raised for scholarships at Illinois Benedictine College in Lisle.

There were 500 people in attendance at the 1993 Educare Ball, held last weekend at the Oak Brook Hills Hotel in Westmont. This 28th annual event was sponsored by the president’s advisory council of the college.

Dick Lamb of Lisle, who chaired this year’s ball with his wife, Sue, said that the support shown for the college recognizes the value of a private education. “In society we need people who have a values-oriented mindset,” he said.

During the cocktail hour, the Dixie Eagles, a jazz ensemble from the college, provided entertainment, while many of the alumni in attendance renewed acquaintances. “I enjoy coming back,” said Joyce Parsze of Naperville, who attended with husband Mike. “I have a good time, and it is a good way to support the college.”

The theme of the evening was America’s Best and Brightest, and many of those at the ball said the scholarship funds help students attain that rank.

“The scholarship money goes to deserving students who otherwise might not be able to afford higher education,” said Richard Becker of Oak Brook, president of the college.

About 10 IBC students attended the ball. Eric Green of Chicago, a senior at the college, said that his scholarship made it possible for him to realize his dream of a college education.

Senior Scott Nichols also said that his scholarship has made a difference. “It meant that I could go to a small private college where the teachers and students know each other,” he said.
