The idea that a 50-year-old woman can recover $178,000 from her ex-fiance of seven weeks for emotional distress and lost income is a gross injustice and an example of what is wrong with this society. Although any normal human being would be heartbroken over the loss of a meaningful relationship, to sue and recover monetary damages is nothing short of ridiculous.
I would like to offer my condolences to Richard Springs, who it appears came to his senses. It seems to me that he was quite generous when he offered to let Sharon Wildey keep the $19,000 engagement ring and the $10,000 in the joint Chicago bank account.
I can only say to Springs: Be glad you bailed out before you became husband number four.
