Dan Kening’s article on WLS’ Jay Marvin (Nov. 9) is yet another piece of stinky media bias. The article implies that Marvin provides a needed balance to a station whose lineup is solidly conservative. Apparently Kening went to the liberal-dominated Chicago schools and didn’t learn his math. While Rush Limbaugh’s act is solo, both Don Wade and Ed Vrdolyak are “balanced” by having liberal on-air partners. In addition, he neglected to mention Roe Conn (normally a liberal, but who has been seeing the light of day since Clinton’s election) and Catherine Johns (normally pinned to the far left).

In terms of on-air hours, we thus have on the right Limbaugh (3) plus Wade (4) plus Vrdolyak (3) equals 10 hours. On the left, we have Roma (4) plus Conn (3) plus Wansley (3) plus Johns (4) plus Marvin (4) equals 18 hours. Liberals have nearly twice as much air time as conservatives on WLS.

If, as Drew Hayes said, WLS is often characterized as leaning to the right, what ratio of liberals to conservatives is necessary for a “balanced” station, much less a “liberal” one? Three to one? Four to one?

No wonder Limbaugh says, “Equal time? I am equal time.” With articles like this, conservatives have to keep up a sense of humor.
