Your coverage of the escalating violence in Chicago, along with the other media coverage, leaves me somewhat perplexed. Nowhere in the coverage was the question raised: Where are the young people getting the guns to kill each other?
The coverage told us of the steady stream of guns confiscated each day, but nary a mention of the steady stream of guns that replace those confiscated. Where are they coming from? Who is supplying them? How are they distributed? Who is profiting from the sales?
In five years of observing a steady increase of killings, I have seen hardly any mention about the seemingly inexhaustible supply of weapons that fall into the hands of young people.
We seem to have a criminal justice system that pursues dope pushers and suppliers with vigor and seemingly ignores gun pushers. Both pushers are pushing death and misery.
One would think that whenever a person is found with a gun in the city, especially a young person, where the gun came from should be investigated thoroughly.
