Matthew Weber’s letter (Dec. 3) is a perfect example of a key problem with Catholic schools.

He credits the “sense of community” of Catholic institutions with producing not only “unprecedented graduation rates and excellent test scores” but “students of highest moral character.”

Like most private schools, Catholic schools can choose their student body and remove any students deemed undesirable-a critical factor in achieving higher average performance levels. This perspective is rather narrow.

Does he really believe that the vast majority of American students (who, he may be surprised to know, are not Catholic) would be well-served by such a solution?
