Diane Ragains will be the guest soloist at the Du Page Symphony Orchestra’s second subscription concert at 8 p.m. Saturday at Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton St., Naperville.

The soprano made her debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana,” and has since appeared with numerous symphonies and opera companies throughout the United States.

Barbara Schubert will conduct a program that will feature works by Anton Bruckner and Maurice Ravel.

The Du Page Symphony Orchestra is an all-volunteer orchestra and was founded in 1954.

Its March 12 concert will feature Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the combined voices of the Naperville Chorus and the Downers Grove Oratorio Society, and the final concert on May 15 will showcase the winners of the 1993-94 Young Artists Auditions.

– Mark Lindsay and Gary Lewis & The Playboys will bring back the music of the ’60s at 8 p.m. Friday at the Norris Cultural Arts Center, 1040 Dunham Rd., St. Charles.

The concert replaces Dion, originally scheduled for Feb. 6.

– In celebration of Black History Month, the Paramount Arts Centre in Aurora presents Charlotte Blake Alston in a one-woman show featuring songs, storytelling and dramatic presentations of historic figures such as Harriet Tubman and Sojourner Truth. The show is 7:30 p.m. Friday.

– The Saturday Brass Quintet will perform a chamber concert at 8 p.m. Saturday at Fermilab’s Ramsey Auditorium, Kirk Road at Pine Street, Batavia. Tickets are $10. Call 708-840-ARTS.

Also at Fermilab: Israeli dancer Roni Bar-Yosef will present a mini-workshop of traditional and contemporary Israeli folk dances at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Village Barn, Sauk Boulevard north of Batavia Road, Batavia.

– The Vienna Choir Boys will be the first professional group to perform in the new Visual and Performing Arts Center at Elgin Community College, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The concert will be at 8 p.m. Friday.

– At the Two Way Street Coffee House this month: Bob Janis, songwriter-folksinger with a country flair, Friday; Art Lang with Cathy Ciolac, performing a variety of traditional, original and old English tunes on multiple musical instruments, Feb. 11; Ron Hines, singer-songwriter-guitarist, Feb. 18; and Tom and Chris Kastle, who sing contemporary and traditional songs, Feb. 25.
