Tallying the numbers to compare buying a car with leasing it is like driving over a rocky road-the brain gets jostled.

Chart Software of Florida, however, has created a computer program to crunch the numbers.

The company, which released its Expert Lease program in May, allows customers to compare lease and loan prices for up to 10 cars.

Expert Lease also offers information on the ins and outs of leasing a car and advantages and disadvantages and estimates the “time value” of money when leasing or buying.

Chart also sells a professional version of Expert Lease, which provides databases on residual values and new-car prices. The databases are updated quarterly.

“This is designed to help consumers and businesses get the best deal on leasing an automobile,” said Chart Software owner Charles Hart.

The software program requires drivers to feed information, such as the price of the car, preferred monthly payments and length of lease into the computer.

Expert Lease sells for $49.95 for the standard version and $99.95 for the professional version. For information, call 813-725-0380.

Another good source for information on a lease deal is Automotive Lease Guide by Doug Aiken. The bimonthly publication sells for $9 and lists residual rates for cars. For information, call 805-965-1403.
