Outfielder Jay Buhner and the Seattle Mariners agreed Saturday to a $4.35 million, one-year contract, a raise from his $2,772,500 salary last season.
The agreement was midway between the $4.7 million Buhner asked for in arbitration and the $4 million Seattle offered. A hearing had been scheduled for Wednesday.
Buhner hit .272 last season with 27 homers and 98 RBIs.
In other signings Saturday, catchers Kirt Manwaring and Jeff Reed and left-handed pitcher Trevor Wilson agreed to contracts with the San Francisco Giants, resolving all of the club’s arbitration cases. Manwaring and Wilson agreed to one-year deals and Reed signed a two-year deal.
Manwaring, who made $765,000 last season, will be paid $1.8 million; Wilson, who was plagued by shoulder problems last season, will earn a base salary of $1 million; and Reed settled for $1.3 million over two seasons.
Brian Harper, perhaps the top free-agent catcher, agreed Saturday to a minor-league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers.
