Over the last four years, the American Jewish Congress’ Deborah Award has honored women of achievement. But on Sunday, two businesses that have fostered women’s advancement will receive the 1994 award.

Cole Taylor Bank in Chicago and Fel-Pro Inc., a light industrial manufacturer in Skokie, were named winners this year because they are “examples of how doing good is good business,” said Sylvia M. Neil, the congress’ executive director. Fel-Pro offers employees family day care, summer camp and summer teen employment programs. Cole Taylor Bank’s eight-person senior leadership group includes two women.

It’s good business to enhance equal opportunity for women, Neil said, because women will respond to companies sensitive to their needs.

Proceeds of the Deborah Awards dinner will go to programs of the congress’ Commission for Women’s Equality. The black-tie event will begin at 5 p.m. in the Chicago Hilton & Towers, 720 S. Michigan Ave. Cost is $250. For information, call 312-332-7355.
