Colin Jackson strengthened his status Saturday as the world’s fastest sprint hurdler, indoors and out.
After two false starts, Jackson stormed out of the blocks and broke one of the most formidable indoor records, the 60-meter world mark held by Greg Foster for seven years.
Jackson’s time of 7.35 seconds at a Britain-United States meet shaved .01 seconds off Foster’s record.
How could he go faster?
“If I get to bed before 3 in the morning and get a good night’s sleep, I could have a chance of running fast again,” Jackson said.
Jackson lost his bid for a double by finishing second in the 60-meter sprint. World and Olympic 100-meter champion Linford Christie won in 6.53 to Jackson’s 6.55.
Britain won 79-60 in the men’s competition, and 69-59 in the women’s, to complete the double for the second year in a row. Sally Gunnell, British world champion in the 400-meter hurdles, ran the fastest women’s 400-meter time in the world this year, :52.34.
