Occupation: Actor/comedian.
Birthday: Aug. 30, 1956.
Birthplace: Chicago.
Current home: Los Angeles.
Marital status: Married for one year to Yolanda Caponera.
People confuse me with: Al Bundy.
Working on: “The Good Life,” on NBC-TV and touring as a standup comedian.
The book I’ve been reading is: “Eyewitness to History,” by John Carey.
Favorite performers: Jimmy Cagney and Marlon Brando. No matter who else was in the scene, you watched them.
Prized possession: I just bought an emerald-green 1993 Ford Explorer, and I’m dying to try it out. I haven’t even kicked in the 4-by-4 drive yet.
Personal heroes: My father, a fire-department chief, who gave me my competitivness and work ethic; my grandfather, who was an entertainer; and Walter Payton, who loved the game and never complained.
My fantasy is: I’m starring in a Martin Scorsese film.
People who knew me in high school thought I was: A jock but also a bit of a geek because I marched in the band.
The price I’ve paid for success: I didn’t get married until I was 36. When you’re on the road so much, it’s hard to establish a relationship.
The best time of my life: After college, when I was doing comedy and playing in three different softball leagues. I loved going back to a bar with my buddies after a game and cutting up. I miss that.
The worst time of my life: Leaving Chicago for L.A. in 1985. “Star Search” called, and I was at the point in my career where I had to make the move. But I hated leaving. All my friends and family were here.
If I’ve learned one thing in life, it’s: Stick with your dream. My grandfather cried in his beer because he never pursued his singing career.A. I wasn’t going to let that happen to me.
Three words that best describe me: Charming, caring and competitive.
