Barbara Gilleran-Johnson, a judge in Lake County, Ill., is trying to cook up a way to become the first woman to win a seat on the 2nd District Court of Appeals.

To gain name recognition in the 13 counties of the 2nd District, Gilleran-Johnson put together a pamphlet of recipes for 13 dishes representing each of the counties and a brief description of the early history of each county.

The recipes include Daniel Boone easy beef stew, De Kalb County corn bread, Lake County Michigan mash and A river runs through it-Du Page County brownies. Gilleran-Johnson said the recipes come from her mother and are all “good, easy and simple.”

Gilleran-Johnson is one of six Republican candidates for the seat in the primary March 15.
