Kudos to Eric Zorn for recently citing results of a study conducted by the Department of Justice showing that attempted robberies and assaults are far less likely to be completed when the victim defends himself with a gun.

Granted this refreshing data was buried deep within a column on another issue, but at least Zorn had the courage to mention it, something no one else has done. Just a modicum of common sense should be sufficient to cause people to question the statistics all too oft quoted to the effect that “one is more likely to be victimized with one’s own gun.”

Unfortunately, the majority are all too inclined to jump on the bandwagon and “do something” about gun control (regardless of how inane and useless that “something” might be). I always knew that we couldn’t all be such “bad shots.” Many thanks, Eric.
