It has become apparent that although the legal system states that a person is innocent until proven guilty, the media has a tendency to assume otherwise. This behavior is obvious in the representation of the Tonya Harding case.
We were relieved to find that amongst numerous negative portrayals, the article, “Harding deserves her day on the ice” by Mary Schmich (Jan. 30) had an unbiased view. It gave Harding the benefit of the doubt, without using her background as a justification for any alleged crimes. The article was an important reminder-innocent until proven guilty.
