The District 95 School Board has instituted a new policy designed to address the sexual harassment of students.
Previously, the district used a broader policy that mainly addressed sexual harassment against employees. Now the board will employ two separate policies-one for student victims and one for employees.
School officials said there had been no reported sexual harassment of students, but said they wanted to adopt a policy in case any problems arise.
According to the new student policy, students who experience sexual harassment should notify in writing their assistant principal or principal. The charges should be lodged within “a reasonable time after the incident,” but no specific time limit is specified, according to the policy.
If a teacher or student is found guilty of sexual harassment by the board, disciplinary action may include a warning, suspension or expulsion.
