While public officials and citizens debate the merits of bridges over the Fox River north of Aurora, the City Council continues to press for construction of a city bridge at Sullivan Road.

“There isn’t any argument about this one,” said Ald. Bob O’Connor, chairman of the Finance Committee, which last week recommended approval of an engineering contract for the bridge.

The $390,000 engineering project, $78,000 of which would come from the city and the rest from the state, wouldn’t be completed until late this year if approved by the City Council.

The city and state would then try to get federal money to build the bridge. That could take as long as five years.
