Elmwood Park: Corey Redmond finished with 18 points and 18 rebounds-the latter matching Elmwood Park’s team total-as St. Francis de Sales (12-14) defeated the host school 80-46 to advance to Friday’s title game. Larry Moore Jr. added 17 points and Lee Lampley 16 for the winners, while Joel Herrera’s 21 paced Elmwood (13-13).
“Finally, a team that we were taller and quicker than,” St. Francis coach Larry Moore Sr said. “Playing in the Catholic League was brutal for us this year, but it’s paying off.”
In the second game, Timothy Christian (19-8) beat Walther Lutheran for the third time this season, this time 50-40, as Ryan Woltersturff’s 13 points led the way.
Timothy committed nine turnovers in the first quarter, but hit 13 of 17 first-half shots to take a 29-23 halftime lead.
“We had no offensive rhythm at all tonight,” Timothy coach Jim Snoeyink said. “We said coming into the game that if the inside pass wasn’t there don’t force it but that’s exactly what we did the very first pass of the game. We had all those turnovers in the first quarter, but we survived.”
Walther (9-18) missed all 14 of its third-quarter shots.
