As a man, I am outraged. After a week of front-page articles and “details at 10” TV news on the Keystone kids, a front-page article carries the tag: “see Mothers, pg. X.” Maybe if we saw some “fathers,” this would be a different story.

Yes, the mothers are in trouble, and deservedly so. But is anyone out there looking for the fathers in an effort to bring them to justice?

It amazes me that the list of people at fault has included ADC, DCFS, the state, the mothers, friends, neighbors, relatives . . . but no fathers? I want them found and held responsible. It is just fair, and many of us are tired of paying their bills.

Last, I think the high visibility of this case provides a watershed opportunity for system reform. Since it takes two, let’s hold both biological parents responsible. Let’s start by allowing every woman one “I don’t know,” but before she can get any more aid money for more than one baby, she better come up with a father (not necessarily a husband).
