Morton Park District was given a grant from Gov. Edgar in the amount of $416,000 for a two-mile bicycle trail, which may be used by a few Morton residents.
This is another pork-barrel project multiplied many times on the state and national level and is the reason the government is unable to balance the budget.
A $416,000 two-mile bicycle trail is not essential. Our state treasury is behind payment to hospitals and nursing homes for Medicaid payments. When a family has limited means and not enough money to pay its bills, it eliminates unnecessary expenditures.
We need constitutional amendments for balanced state and national budgets and term limits.
