Many Catholic lay people-men as well as women-simply cannot accept the recent papal statement against the ordination of women.

When some of those same male apostles the pope uses to justify an all-male clergy wanted to require that all male Gentile converts to Christianity be circumcised before being baptized, Paul and others argued that policy would be both unjust and unwise-and they ultimately prevailed.

So will those of us who favor the ordination of women.
