The publicity of D-Day had really been mind-blowing to me, although I can truly understand the importance of this event.

At D-Day June 6th, 1944, I was giving anesthetics in the jungles of New Guinea, unaware of D-Day. We were working like dogs and felt that the European forces were far better off than we were. To use an old army expression: They were “fat-catting.”

No mention is made in all the D-Day publicity about the U.S. forces in the South Pacific. I am sure that I am echoing the strong feelings of all the South Pacific veterans.
