Favorite childhood memory: Being in bed listening to my parents’ bridge parties, with all the joking and laughing.
Prized possessions: Our house, which was built in 1821 by Patrick Henry’s nephew, and my chickens. Everyone sends them to me. I must have 50.

I want to teach my children: All the things my mother taught me that I thought were so corny but which I now hear myself telling them, such as, “Always say `please’ and `thank you.’ “
A really great evening to me is: Having a bunch of friends over so it’s like my parents’ bridge parties.
