ASTHMA MAY HIDE HYPERACTIVITY: While doctors had thought that asthma and its treatment may be the cause of learning and behavior problems in some children, new research suggests that children with asthma may have attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder that has been overlooked.

OBSESSIVE-CUMPULSIVE DISORDER: This disorder is not uncommon among teenagers, according to a study. The disorder is marked by the presence of recurrent ideas and fantasies (obsessions) and repetitive impulses or actions (compulsions), which may cause stress or significantly interfere with a normal routine.

HEART FAILURE: It affects 2 million Americans, causes 200,000 deaths annually and results in about $10 billion in health care costs. Heart failure occurs when the left side of the heart has weakened so that it is pumping only a third to a half of the blood circulated by a normal heart. Patients should take seriously medical advice to follow low-salt diets and take all medications as prescribed.
