The results of an investigation into the suspected theft of more than 60 major appliances from the Housing Authority of Joliet could be turned over to the Will County state’s attorney’s office “within a week,” the city’s police chief said Tuesday.
Chief Joseph Beazley said there is new information that could lead to indictments by a grand jury, but he declined to elaborate.
On Monday, authority officials also turned over to police the inventory audit that showed a number of missing appliances, including 35 stoves, 17 refrigerators, 7 hot water heaters and 2 washer-dryers, were missing from storage and believed stolen.
Henry Morris, agency executive director, told Housing Commission members that losses total about $13,000.
Last month, two authority workers were suspended for 20 days without pay after being implicated in the sale of a stolen refrigerator. On Monday, the authority board voted to continue their suspensions for another 20 days.
