Coup leader Lt. Gen. Raoul Cedras defied demands for his resignation Wednesday, saying he would step down only if the international community recognized the civilian judge the army installed as president. The general, shown above at breakfast Wednesday in his Port-au-Prince home, said, “If the international community recognizes our civilian authority, the government of provisional President Emile Jonassaint, I will be ready to hand in my resignation on the spot.”
