In an effort to clarify its grading system for colleges and universities, and encourage high-ranking high-school students to take electives without as much fear of hurting their grade-point averages, Community Unit District 303 will simplify its weighted grades system.
Beginning in 1995-96, all courses will receive the same weighting, except for courses designated as honors, advanced placement and others that meet special criteria.
Sophomores, juniors and seniors in 1995-96 will continue with the current grading system until graduation.
Under the current system, the grading system can range from four to six points. In the new, two-tiered system, the system will range from five points for regular classes and six points for honors and advanced-placement classes.
