Compaq Computer Corp. and software company Oracle Systems Corp. established a joint business unit to try to bolster their products in advanced networks. The two companies said they had established a long-term alliance that ultimately will allow Oracle’s complex database software to run on Compaq’s specialized computers, known as file servers, that anchor networks.
