Cornerback Anthony Blaylock (knee) and defensive tackle Tim Ryan (neck) were sent back to Chicago for more extensive tests Wednesday.
Ryan is expected back Thursday, according to coach Dave Wannstedt.
“Anthony Blaylock is just rehabbing now,” he said.
In addition, rookie defensive tackle Jim Flanigan strained his left hamstring Wednesday, aggravating an early injury.
Tackle Marcus Spears (knee), cornerback Keshon Johnson (neck), safety John Mangum (hamstring), tackle Troy Auzenne (knee), tight end Marv Cook (back) and center Gene McGuire (knee) also remained on the sideline for Wednesday’s workout.
Hut one, hut two: The defense is clearly ahead of the offense in most drills so far.
“We are still a little bit sluggish on the snap count and the quarterback exchange. We have to clear that up,” said Wannstedt, who added that he continues to be impressed with the arm strength and accuracy of quarterback Erik Kramer.
Defensively, Wannstedt singled out the training-camp play of second-year defensive lineman Albert Fontenot.
What’s my line? The Bears hoped to stabilize their offensive line with the signing of free-agent tackle Andy Heck last February. But injuries and other factors to shake up the unit again this season.
“I think we need to settle who the five best players are,” said Wannstedt. “That is the first step. Once we get Troy Auzenne back next week and throw him in the mix, we will have a healthy group, and we will be able to make a true evaluation.”
