Thank you for printing the excellent article, “Shootout in Deadwood” by Paul Galloway (Tempo, June 27). Once gambling gets a foothold, increase is the order of the day. I feel the riverboat casinos proposed here in Chicago are the absolute wrong direction to go.
We need more employment opportunities in this state, but gambling is not the answer. Ultimately it results in many low-level paid positions, greed resulting in addiction and more family destruction.
Since we have such a love affair with riverboats and so many young people looking for something to do, it would be great if Disney or someone could develop riverboat entertainment themes that would be marketable and make us more attractive to the family tourist.
