I would like to congratulate the Tribune on its honest and concise article on Imam W. Deen Mohammed (Tempo, July 5). It is very gratifying to see the imam receive the exposure he deserves and that your paper is responsible for correcting the present misinformation that is out in the media when it comes to African-American Muslims. We are large in numbers and do not hate all other cultures and backgrounds (i.e., Jews, Christians, etc.).
Being a Muslim in this society and African-American, most people want to associate you with the Nation of Islam. That is not the case. I wish both black and white people realize that it will take the combination of all people to correct the wrongs and ills of this great society.
Imam W. Deen Mohammed allows the individual to draw upon your God-given talents. Every individual is responsible for his or her actions. He teaches that the only race that matters is the human race.
