So the postal workers in Washington are no different (for better or worse) than those here in Chicago. Bags of mail are found stashed and undelivered. So what else is new? I have worked many years as a secretary. If I turned in a job performance considered normal and acceptable by postal workers, I would be out the door so fast my eyes would water.
I understand that workers responsible for these shortcomings cannot be fired because they are under civil service. I don’t understand this. Civil service should stand for the maximum in job performance, not the minimum. If you don’t perform, you get canned. If you don’t deliver, you don’t work-this should be the byword. Not acceptance of shoddy workmanship.
